Leaving Martina Franca and driving for about 6 km along the vineyard-lined ss 172 road through the lovely Valle d’Itria the next stop is Locorotondo (410 m asl, 13.418 inhabitants), a town lying over a small hill in the South-Eastern part of the upland of Murgia. Its peculiarity is represented by its urban circular shape (from which its name) and its famous and excellent D.O.C. wine, that is usually served with typical dishes of the place. The main church, consecrated to S.Giorgio,and the lovely little church of S.Maria della Greca are worth a visit.
