Leaving Alberobello and going South on the ss 172 the visitor comes across another jewel, Cisternino (19 km away, 393 m asl, 11.951 inhabitants). This small and smart town lies down over a green hill, surrounded by a fertile soil and refined by the typical trulli. The old town offers pleasant walks along a maze of white narrow lanes full of character above which little arches stand. It is also possible to enjoy some interesting architecture such as: the old main church, consecrated to S.Nicola, and some charming palaces (the Governor palace, the Baron palace). Leaving the centre, the dolmen of Masseria Ottava is worth a visit.
