Going on for about 9 km from Locorotondo, always on the ss 172, the capital of trulli, Alberobello (428 m asl, 11.000 inhabitants) is encountered. This wonderful town is one of most peculiar in the world, and that is why it has become a Unesco heritage site, thanks to its picturesque trulli (there are more than 1000). A walk in its old town leads the visitor to the marvelluos monumental areas of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, the typical Casa d’Amore (Love’s House) and the enchanting Trullo Sovrano, of rare and undoubted beauty.

Here we report the justification for Inscription of Alberobello as a UNESCO heritage site: The Committee decided to inscribe the nominated property on the basis of cultural criteria (iii), (iv) and (v) considering that the site is of outstanding universal value being an exceptional example of a form of building construction deriving from prehistoric construction techniques that have survived intact and functioning into the modern world.
